The Bengali Movie industry in Kolkata is a mixture of odds. There is a huge pool of talent here but what they mainly lack is the infrastructure. Bengali films are mostly known for revenge tales with a romantic angle or a love story with a fight for the babe. However, with the changing times, Bengali cinematography has undergone a paradigm shift.
We at Calcutta Movie Reviews are a bunch of movie lovers and given that we are mostly Bengalis, we have chosen to review Bengali movies mainly. Our vision is to make an impression to the world that Bengali Cinema is no more in a place to be left out from the best. Even previously, with the likes of Satyajit Ray, Bengali Cinema had ruled. With directors like Q and Srijit Mukherjee among others, Bengali Cinema has a long way to go if the films get enough promotion.
There is the language barrier, of course but the budget matters as well. Bengali Cinema doesn't have enough funds to compete with Bollywood. Sree Venkatesh Films cannot compete with Yash Raj Films in marketing an promotion.
Calcutta Movie Reviews finds it's purpose in promoting Bengali Cinema through their reviews in the digital environment that our world has come up to. This is a non-profit, independent orgnization and the views we provide are completely our own.
